Why avoid gold plated or gold vermeil jewellery?

As we've already said, we only use solid gold in our jewellery. Don't be fooled by those selling gold plated or vermeil jewellery for inflated prices. Whilst there may be a place for these metals in the industry, we believe in making jewellery that lasts a life time - let's face it, gold plated or vermeil jewellery is just another form of "fast fashion" and doesn't last.

There are several key differences between solid and gold-plated jewelry:

  1. Value and Durability: Solid gold jewellery, especially pieces with higher karat purity, tends to hold its value and withstand the test of time. Gold-plated jewellery, while more affordable, may eventually show signs of wear as the thin layer of gold can wear off, revealing the base metal underneath.

  2. Maintenance: Solid gold jewellery requires minimal maintenance as it does not tarnish or corrode. In contrast, gold-plated jewelry may require more careful maintenance to preserve the appearance of the gold layer, including avoiding exposure to moisture, chemicals, and abrasion.

  3. Cost: Solid gold jewellery is generally more expensive due to its higher gold content, however, it will last longer and look better, so we believe it's a better option to purchase where possible. Many sellers will fool purchasers in to paying very high prices for gold plated and gold vermeil jewellery and we don't think it's fair - always read the small print!
